My friends call me "La Pasionaria." The name comes from Emma Tenayuca, a San Antonio labor leader who at the age of 34 led the Pecan Shellers Strike of 1938 to improve working conditions and wages for workers. They call me this because over the years, they have seen the passion I have for good food, beautiful and colorful things, rich Latinx literature, inspiring women leaders, and overcoming challenges.
